“Volkswagen AG, Europe’s biggest automaker, may invest 1 billion euros ($1.6 billion) in a Turkish factory with its local partner Dogus Holding, Referans newspaper said today. Aclan Acar, chairman of Dogus Otomotiv Servis & Ticaret AS, which distributes Volkswagen cars in Turkey, said the German company would “sooner or later” begin production in Turkey and the minimum investment would be 1 billion euros.”

The meeting will invite local entrepreneurs to create business relations for export, import and mutual conceptions of enterprises in the countries.”“

“The head of Turkish State Railways (TCDD) said on Monday that the country’s first high-speed train will begin test runs in June, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported. Moreover, with the implementation of high-speed train service, modern stations would be built across the country, said the report, adding that the first modern train station complex, which would include a hotel and a shopping mall, would be constructed in Ankara.  TCDD purchased first high-speed train sets, with a maximum speed of 250 km per hour, from Spain’s CAF company last year.”

Gencer died of respiratory problems and heart failure on Friday. Her death was reported by Milan’s Teatro alla Scala, where, between 1957 and 1983, the soprano sang nineteen roles, and later administered its young artist program.”

“Turkish forward Hedo Turkoglu of the Orlando Magic has been chosen the National Basketball Association’s most improved player. The NBA announced Monday that Turkoglu received 61 first place votes, ahead of Memphis Grizzlies guard Rudy Gay and Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge. Turkoglu, an eight-year NBA veteran, averaged a career high in scoring with 19.5 points per game — almost eight points per game above his career average. He also averaged 5.7 rebounds per game and five assists per game.”
